Process

FREE PICK-UP & DELIVERY

Complimentary pick-up and drop-off of your valuable prints in the Portland Metro Area.

HANDLING

Photo preservation begins when I pick up your order. At pick-up, photos are placed into an opaque archival plastic container to reduce UV damage, water, and moisture.

I come directly to my scanning studio then it goes into a fire/waterproof safe until it's ready to scan.

INSPECTION

Photos are individually inspected prior to scanning.

Any damaged, curled, chipped, or torn photos will be set aside and charged for flatbed scanning price.

Photo prints are gently cleaned with an anti-static brush to remove any lint/dust prior to scanning resulting in the highest quality scan.

We scan at 1200ppi

WHAT SIZE CAN WE SCAN?

Our photo-specific sheet-fed scanner will digitize wallet size (3.5x2.5) and up to 8"x12".

Our flatbed will digitize, smaller prints, delicate and large photos/artwork up to 12x18.

Anything larger than 12”x18” will utilize our camera scanning technique.

NAMING YOUR DIGITAL FILES

Filenames IS an identifying name given to your digital photo file. Our basic file naming will be the scanning date/time and your name.

Our filename convention can be customized for an additional cost.

METADATA

Metadata is uncommon to the general public, but very important in this age of digital information and files. Metadata is information about your scanned photo file that is accessible through the “Properties” section of your digital file. (Think of a printed photo with a handwritten notes on the back of who is in the picture, when the picture was taken, where it was taken, and any special event, etc.

For an additional cost, we will embed any information into the digital file for ease of searching on any Windows PC, Mac OS, or cloud-storage service. This information stays in the properties section of the digital file.

Examples of specific embedded information:

• Types of clothing

• Number of people in the shot

FILE OUTPUT & DELIVERY

Photos are digitized and are converted to compressed .JPG files.

Archival .TIFF files are available as upgrade and is best for future proofing your files.

We can deliver your files electronically via our preferred cloud storage service or by providing us with a new hard drive or USB Thumb Drive.

TURNAROUND TIME

Due to the nature of our photo legacy business, projects may take couple of weeks. We do take last minute funeral/memorial request and this may extend your project.

WHAT ABOUT ONLINE SHOEBOX PHOTO SCANNING COMPANIES?

While they are inexpensive, if you choose this route, please be sure that they are scanning it here in the USA and not sending it out to other countries to complete your job. You take the risk of photos getting lost and/or damaged during shipment.

• Free From Curling, tears, rips, chips, folds, stickers, creases, adhesives, and/or photo mounts

• Professional photos taken by photographer or photo studio must be accompanied by a written release. Any photographs that look professional and not accompanied by a written notice will not be scanned.
